Compras en inglés: tallas, precios, devoluciones y pagos con tarjeta

Comprar en el extranjero no es solo “How much is this?” Es posible que necesites encontrar una talla, entender una promoción, declinar ayuda, elegir la moneda de tu tarjeta o devolver algo más tarde.

Buscar y pedir ayuda

Si un asistente de tienda te pregunta “Can I help you?”, puedes decir:

• “I’m just looking, thanks.”
• “Yes, I’m looking for a lightweight rain jacket.”
• “Do you sell phone chargers?”
• “Where can I find travel adapters?”
• “Do you have anything similar to this?”

“I’m just looking” es amistoso y normal. No significa que prometas no comprar.

Tallas, colores y probarte ropa

• “Do you have this in a smaller size?”
• “Does this come in black?”
• “Could I try this on?”
• “Where are the fitting rooms?”
• “It’s a little tight around the shoulders.”
• “The size is right, but I’d prefer a different colour.”

Las tallas de ropa no son consistentes entre países o marcas. Pide medidas si la compra es importante: “What is the waist measurement for this size?”

Precios y promociones

• “How much is this?”
• “Is this the final price?”
• “Is there a discount if I buy two?”
• “Is this included in the sale?”
• “What does ‘buy one, get one half price’ mean?”
• “Could you check the price, please? The shelf label was different.”

Un receipt registra tu compra. Un refund te devuelve el dinero. Un exchange reemplaza un artículo con otro.

Diálogo natural en una tienda

Asistente: Let me know if you need any help.

Cliente: Thanks. Do you have this shirt in a medium?

Asistente: Let me check. We have a medium in blue, but not in green.

Cliente: Could I try the blue one on?

Asistente: Of course. The fitting rooms are at the back.

Cliente: It fits well. I’ll take it. Can I pay by card?

Asistente: Yes. Would you like a bag?

Cliente: No, thank you. I have one.

Pagar con tarjeta

• “Can I pay contactless?”
• “Do you accept this card?”
• “The card reader says the payment was declined.”
• “Could I try another card?”
• “Could I have a receipt, please?”
• “Can you email the receipt?”

Algunos terminales te ofrecen cobrarte en tu moneda local. Esto se llama conversión de divisa dinámica. La pantalla debe mostrar las opciones y la tasa; léelas antes de elegir. Si deseas la moneda local, di “Please charge me in local currency.”

Compras libres de impuestos

Si los visitantes pueden reclamar un reembolso de impuestos, pregunta:

• “Is tax-free shopping available?”
• “What is the minimum purchase?”
• “Could I have the tax-free form?”
• “Do I need to show my passport?”
• “Where do I validate this at the airport?”

La elegibilidad y los procedimientos varían. Conserva el recibo y pregunta si los bienes deben permanecer sin usar hasta la inspección.

Devoluciones y cambios

• “I’d like to return this, please.”
• “I bought it yesterday, but it doesn’t fit.”
• “It stopped working after one use.”
• “Could I exchange it for a larger size?”
• “I have the receipt and the original packaging.”
• “Will the refund go back to the same card?”

Revisa la política de devolución antes de comprar artículos de venta. “Final sale” a menudo significa que no se aceptan devoluciones a menos que el artículo esté defectuoso.

Practica con objetos que te rodean

Elige tres objetos. Para cada uno, pregunta sobre el precio, una versión diferente y la política de devolución. Luego practica un problema de pago. Las mismas pautas de oraciones funcionan para ropa, electrónica, regalos y artículos de viaje.
