All'ingresso, puoi dire:

  • “A table for two, please.”
  • “We have a reservation under Patel.”
  • “Do you have anything available outside?”
  • “How long is the wait?”
  • “Could we sit somewhere a little quieter?”

Se il personale di accoglienza dice “It’ll be about twenty minutes,”, sta fornendo una stima, non facendo una garanzia.

Chiedere informazioni sul menu

  • “What do you recommend?”
  • “What is today’s special?”
  • “What does this come with?”
  • “Is this dish spicy?”
  • “How is the fish cooked?”
  • “Is this enough to share?”

“What does it come with?” chiede informazioni sui contorni, salse o accompagnamenti. “What’s in it?” chiede informazioni sugli ingredienti.

Ordinare in modo naturale

Tutti questi suonano normali:

  • “I’ll have the grilled chicken, please.”
  • “Could I get the vegetable curry?”
  • “I’d like the soup to start, then the salmon.”
  • “We’ll share the salad.”

Nei ristoranti nordamericani, “Can I get…?”

Cameriere: Are you ready to order, or do you need another minute?

Ospite: We need another minute, please. Is the green curry very spicy?

Cameriere: It has a bit of heat, but we can make it mild.

Ospite: Great. I’ll have that, mild, with steamed rice.

Cameriere: And for you?

Ospite 2: Could I get the grilled fish? What does it come with?

Cameriere: Roast potatoes and a side salad.

Ospite 2: Perfect. Could I have the dressing on the side?

Modifiche ed esigenze alimentari

  • “Could I have that without onions?”
  • “Could you put the sauce on the side?”
  • “Is it possible to swap the chips for a salad?”
  • “I don’t eat pork. Which dishes would be suitable?”
  • “I have a severe peanut allergy. Is this prepared near peanuts or peanut oil?”

Di' “I have an allergy” e specifica se è grave.

  • “Sorry, I ordered the vegetarian pasta.”
  • “This steak is more well-done than I requested.”
  • “I think this may be someone else’s order.”
  • “We’re still waiting for one dish.”
  • “Could you warm this up, please?”

Mantieni un tono neutro. “I think…” e “It looks like…” sono utili quando vuoi segnalare un errore senza sembrare accusatorio.

Chiedere il conto

In inglese britannico, chiedi the bill. In inglese americano, the check è comune.

  • “Could we have the bill, please?”
  • “Can we pay separately?”
  • “Could you split the bill between these two cards?”
  • “Is service included?”
  • “Can I pay by card?”
  • “Could I get a receipt?”
