  • “A table for two, please.”
  • “We have a reservation under Patel.”
  • “Do you have anything available outside?”
  • “How long is the wait?”
  • “Could we sit somewhere a little quieter?”

Se o anfitrião disser “It’ll be about twenty minutes,”, ele está dando uma estimativa, não fazendo uma garantia.

Perguntando sobre o cardápio

  • “What do you recommend?”
  • “What is today’s special?”
  • “What does this come with?”
  • “Is this dish spicy?”
  • “How is the fish cooked?”
  • “Is this enough to share?”

“What does it come with?” pergunta sobre acompanhamentos, molho ou complementos. “What’s in it?” pergunta sobre ingredientes.

Pedindo de forma natural

Todos esses soam normais:

  • “I’ll have the grilled chicken, please.”
  • “Could I get the vegetable curry?”
  • “I’d like the soup to start, then the salmon.”
  • “We’ll share the salad.”

Em restaurantes norte-americanos, “Can I get…?” é muito comum. Em outros lugares, “Could I have…?” pode soar um pouco mais polido. Nenhum deles precisa de um extra “please give me.”

Um diálogo de restaurante completo

Garçom: Are you ready to order, or do you need another minute?

Convidado: We need another minute, please. Is the green curry very spicy?

Garçom: It has a bit of heat, but we can make it mild.

Convidado: Great. I’ll have that, mild, with steamed rice.

Garçom: And for you?

Convidado 2: Could I get the grilled fish? What does it come with?

Garçom: Roast potatoes and a side salad.

Convidado 2: Perfect. Could I have the dressing on the side?

Alterações e necessidades dietéticas

  • “Could I have that without onions?”
  • “Could you put the sauce on the side?”
  • “Is it possible to swap the chips for a salad?”
  • “I don’t eat pork. Which dishes would be suitable?”
  • “I have a severe peanut allergy. Is this prepared near peanuts or peanut oil?”

Para uma alergia, não confie na frase vaga “I can’t eat…”. Diga “I have an allergy” e especifique se é grave. Peça ao restaurante para verificar. Se a comunicação for incerta, escolha a opção mais segura.

Quando algo está errado

Dê ao garçom a chance de consertar:

  • “Sorry, I ordered the vegetarian pasta.”
  • “This steak is more well-done than I requested.”
  • “I think this may be someone else’s order.”
  • “We’re still waiting for one dish.”
  • “Could you warm this up, please?”

Mantenha o tom neutro. “I think…” e “It looks like…” são úteis quando você quer apontar um erro sem soar acusatório.

Pedindo a conta

Em inglês britânico, peça the bill. Em inglês americano, the check é comum.

  • “Could we have the bill, please?”
  • “Can we pay separately?”
  • “Could you split the bill between these two cards?”
  • “Is service included?”
  • “Can I pay by card?”
  • “Could I get a receipt?”
