旅行英会話の小話：自然な会話を楽しむコツ

小話は、遅れた列車や共有ツアーを旅の最高の部分の一つに変えることができます。また、サービス会話と違って、スクリプトがないので、より難しいように感じることがあります。

解決策は、二十個の賢い質問を暗記することではありません。一つの観察、一つのオープンな質問、一つのフォローアップを使いましょう。

共有状況から始める

• “It’s busier than I expected today.”
• “The view from here is amazing, isn’t it?”
• “Have you been on this tour before?”
• “Do you know if this train is usually on time?”
• “That looks good—what did you order?”

直近の状況についてのコメントは、知らない人からの個人的な質問よりも、侵入的ではないように感じられます。

簡単な旅行質問

• “Are you visiting too, or do you live here?”
• “How long are you here for?”
• “What has been your favourite place so far?”
• “Have you found any good places to eat nearby?”
• “Where are you heading next?”
• “What would you recommend seeing if I have one free afternoon?”

会話をインタビューのようなものにしないでください。答えを受けた後、自分について少し話しましょう: “I’ve heard the night market is great. I’m hoping to go tomorrow.”

会話をスムーズに進めるフォローアップ

• “What did you like about it?”
• “How did you hear about that place?”
• “Was it easy to get there?”
• “Would you go again?”
• “Really? What happened?”
• “That sounds great. Is it far from here?”

短い反応—“That sounds fun,” “No way,” または “I know what you mean”—は、聞いていることを示します。

自然なホステル会話

A: Is anyone sitting here?

B: No, go ahead.

A: Thanks. Have you just arrived?

B: Yesterday. I spent today walking around the old town.

A: Nice. Was there anywhere you especially liked?

B: The food market near the river. It gets really lively after six.

A: That sounds perfect. I was looking for somewhere casual for dinner. Is it easy to walk there?

B: Yes, it’s about fifteen minutes from here.

会話は、A が B が既に言及したことについて尋ねているため、うまくいきます。

地元の人と敬意を持って話す

地元の人をすべて無料の観光ガイドのように扱わないでください。時間があるかどうかを尋ねましょう: “Could I ask you a quick question?” 短い答えを受け入れてください。国籍、言語、収入、政治、宗教についての仮定を避けましょう。

役に立つ質問には以下のようなものがあります:

• “Is there a local dish you think visitors should try?”
• “Is this area very different outside the holiday season?”
• “How do people usually get around here?”
• “Am I pronouncing the name of this place correctly?”

境界線が必要なとき

• “It was lovely meeting you.”

フォローアップの習慣

一つの名詞について尋ねることを練習しましょう。誰かが “I took a cooking class yesterday,” と言ったら、次の質問はすでにあります: どの料理？クラスはどこで？難しかった？自然な会話は、答えから生まれるのではなく、暗記したリストの次の質問から生まれるのではないです。
